Yoga
is best described as a way of life, incorporating practices
for general health, mental clarity and spiritual tranquillity.
It is not a religion and is compatible with all beliefs.
Ruth teaches classical yoga, practices that have been
tried, tested and handed down over many generations.
You do not have to be able to contort your body into
extraordinary shapes - most yoga practices are simple
and well within the ability of most people, while Ruth
has considerable skill in modifying more complex posture
where needed to suit the individual. The main benefits
of yoga practice are felt at all levels - physical,
mental and emotional. The joints become more supple,
the muscles and bones stronger, while balance, posture
and breathing are all improved. The mind gradually becomes
quieter and the thinking processes clearer. By giving
you the tools that help you to manage your problems
more effectively, yoga's age-old principles are totally
relevant to today's lifestyle.
A
typical yoga class begins with a few minutes of relaxation.
This leads on into limbering floor stretches. A sequence
of yoga postures follows (including standing, prone
or kneeling poses) and the class ends with a period
of quiet meditation and relaxation. Awareness of the
breath is an integral part of the practice. Class content
is varied according to the needs and abilities of the
group.
